![]() ![]() In Q2 of 2020, Nintendo had begun to internally distribute information and prototypes of the Switch Project X (later releasing as New Nintendo Switch), and among these new plans came a massive overhaul to the Switch Online Services. ![]() In an interview with Nintendo News X, Pokemon director J unichi Masuda shared that the plan to develop the first MMO of the Pokemon series had been on the drawing board since the release of Pokemon GO, and that conceptualization of the project started as early as 2018, but was ultimately put on hold to focus on the development of the Sword and Shield titles. Six months later in the first Nintendo Direct since 2019, it was revealed that the new title was named "Pokemon World" and would be a MMO for the franchise with more details to follow later in 2021. Starting development in late 2020, the Pokemon Team had announced they were working internally on a new Pokemon title that would stray from what the series typically released prior. ![]()
